important note    Note: This application uses primarily County Natural Areas Inventory (CNAI) data to determine presence of rare species and communities. Rarity (a.k.a. Heritage) data contained in this application is limited and does not represent all known occurrences of species of special concern contained in the Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Inventory (PNDI) and is therefore not to be used for PNDI environmental review purposes.

Data used by this SmartConservationTM web site for analysis of rarity scores in the Piedmont region of Pennsylvania has been purchased by NLT from The Science Office of The Nature Conservancy, Pennsylvania Chapter (PSO-TNC), part of the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP). No further distribution of this Heritage data is authorized without permission from PSO-TNC.

Heritage data used by this application is equivalent to the latest published version of the CNAI data for each county within the area served by the SmartConservationTM model, except that all rare plant species and community records have been updated by PNHP for all counties through March 2002.

SmartConservationTM is being hosted by the Center for Spatial Innovation in the Environment at The Pennsylvania State University Institutes of the Environment. http://www.psie.psu.edu/.

The web site and the software engine driving the model were developed by Avencia, Inc.
The SmartConservationTM Model was developed
by Natural Lands Trust with advice from the
